New Year, Better You: Beauty Tips for 2017

New Year, Better You: My Beauty Tips for 2017

As the New Year rolls in, many of us are determined to make some changes towards “a better me.” Just like every new year, we tend to overwhelm ourselves with mammoth-sized goals and ridiculous timelines. No wonder we stumble and fall! Although setting big goals and having timelines is a great idea, success sometimes lies in the finer details.

This year, it’s all about incorporating small changes into your lifestyle. I prefer to make small changes that won’t bring that feeling of dread when it’s time to put them into practice (or that feeling of guilt when you don’t do them). That way, you’re more likely to stick to them.

Living the chic life should be as effortless and simple as possible. With my beauty tips for 2017, you’ll soon be looking and feeling luminous – without a second thought!

Looking and Feeling Your Best

  1. Take a Page Out of Sleeping Beauty’s Book

I don’t know about you, but any list that encourages me to get more sleep has my complete attention. Life can get busy, and with so many things on your plate, it’s easy to fall behind on your beauty sleep. This can leave you with dull, puffy skin, and it can also make the dark circles under your eyes even worse.

Did you know that your skin repairs itself at night? So while you’re getting some good quality sleep, your skin is doing some amazing things – and you don’t have to lift a finger! Not only does your skin improve, but your entire body has time to recover, leaving you looking and feeling rejuvenated in the morning. Sleeping beauty was definitely on to something…

Additionally, I encourage you to pamper your skin. Invest in good quality sunscreen, cleansers, moisturizers, and serums that will leave you feeling like the queen you are. Simple morning and nighttime skincare routines will save you lots of money in the long run and will help you stay naturally flawless for years to come. #iwokeuplikethis

  1. Stay Hydrated

Water truly is life. When you increase your water intake, your skin cells will stay hydrated – this helps keep wrinkles away and makes your skin more radiant! So this year, resolve to drink more water. No matter where I am, I always make sure that there’s a glass – or bottle – of water nearby.

Make yourself a simple promise: keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Your skin will thank you for it.

  1. Eat Your Way to a Happier, Healthier You

Beauty begins on the inside. This doesn’t just mean personality; what you feed your body has a direct impact on the health of your skin. Provide your body with the nutrients it needs and watch as your hair, skin, and overall health changes before your eyes.

Start by making small, healthy changes like cutting your sugar intake, adding more fruits and veggies, or swapping a few cups of coffee for green tea. Once you see the results of these small changes, you might just be inspired to take it a step further. Aim to be healthier overall rather than focusing on losing a couple of pounds.

  1. Make Exercise Fun

The truth is, exercising can be a drag. Which is probably why many of us stop making our workout times right around when February hits. That’s why one of my beauty tips for 2017 is to find a way to make exercise fun for you.

Do you enjoy dancing? Join a dance class. If you love the water, start swimming. Exercise is great for your mood, overall health, and your skin! Find a form of exercise you enjoy and it’ll feel less like a chore.

  1. Fill Your Bucket

This beauty tip is all about working on your self-confidence. Beauty and self-confidence go hand in hand. If you want to look and feel luminous in 2017, this is probably the best place to start (it probably should have been at the top of this list). All the makeup in the world isn’t going to help if you don’t feel beautiful.

So how do you fill your bucket? Start by complimenting yourself every day – praise both a physical feature and an aspect of your personality. For example, “I have beautiful brown eyes and I’m an honest person.”

Make the effort to engage in activities that make you feel good about yourself; congratulate yourself on a job well done; listen to music. Whatever it is that makes you feel more confident – do it!

New Year, Better You: It’s the Little Things

Living a chic lifestyle is all about attitude. It starts with you. Once you feel good about yourself, that energy will radiate outward, manifesting itself in all aspects of your life. It will definitely be noticed by those around you. My beauty tips for 2017 may seem small, but they’re each designed to show you that achieving small goals will give you that boost of confidence you need to conquer the bigger ones.

What are some of your beauty tips for 2017? Comment below! I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Here’s to a better you!

3 Packing Tips

Whether traveling  for business or pleasure you must travel in style, and travel light.
Once you’ve managed to edit down your selection, you still have to make it all fit in your luggage…

My Packing Tips…

  • I personally love to use clear, travel or packing cubes to keep organized. You can label each one for clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty, etc. and being able to see through each cube allows for quick accessibility. Rolling items like knit tops, denim, workout wear and pajamas save you tons of space as well.
  • Ask Siri about local temperature of your final destination. (for next 5 days)
  • Try to pack based on the weather at your destination as well as the activities and events you will be attending so no item goes wasted. Repeat wears is a good thing and you can find creative
ways to style your outfit using the same pair of pants or basic top. For women, your go-to LBD is a must have for nights out and layered with sweaters for a more casual look. When packing my shoe staples are always black and nude pumps, black denim pants, a t-shirt, blazer, leather jacket and lots of accessories to dress up basic outfits.
  • Always keep a copy of your passport in your phone in case you lose it or in case you have to fill out forms and don’t want to be digging through your luggage.
  • Another thing to always keep in mind is to keep your most expensive jewelry in your carry on. You never want to lose your most precious possessions in a nightmare ‘luggage gone missing’ scenario. In case of missing luggage, I also keep my curling iron and day makeup in my carry on for easy access as well.
  • Indulge in a little in-flight beauty regimen to relax and refresh. Use makeup wipes from Neutrogena to take off your make-up and find a great hydrating cream like Aesop or Lancer to nourish your skin. Aromatherapy oils on your temples is another great way to relax during your flight. You could even do a sleep mask. When I land, I love to spray another hydrating mist on my face for that fresh, dewy look to rejuvenate before my trip.
  • Try packing a candle from home with you when traveling. Nothing makes you feel more at home, relaxed and comfortable than a great smelling candle in your hotel room whose fragrance is familiar to you and reminds you of home. My candles are inspired from the destinations that have meant the most to me – Manhattan for its melting pot of cultures, Swiss Alps because that is where I am from, Beverly Hills which is where I currently live & St. Tropez as my favorite summer travel destination.

Even if you’re a frequent traveler, packing is the worst… if you ask me..

The Benefits Of Making Pasta From Scratch

By making your own pasta, you are able to adapt and tailor your recipe to however you desire. Almost all dried pasta is made using an industrial process, which stems from from the ancient artisan method. For those looking for meals that will add nutrional value, pasta is considered a very healthy meal, as it is high in fiber and low in fat and sugar. It is also full of complex carbohydrates and gives the body a slow release of energy.

Fresh pasta doesn’t develop the gluten as much so it is light and doesn’t leave you with a heavy or bloated feeling.

DIY – Lavender for a Good Night Sleep

Lavender Oil is known for its relaxing and calming quality.

It’s been used for stress relieve anxiety and restlessness and insomnia and it just smells really good! Add it to your bath or shower to relieve aching muscles and stress.

Traveling can sometimes be exhausting! I’m up all night thinking about all sorts of things and sometimes may have a hard time falling asleep because my brain is wide awake. A different time zone and dealing with jet lag doesn’t help either.

Lavender essential oil has a calming scent which makes it an excellent tonic for the nerves. Therefore, it can also be helpful in treating migraines and headaches.

I have tons of lavender bushes all over the place. I love the natural scents and the beautiful pop of colors they provide. Not only are they beautiful, but I also use them to help me relax.

I just grab bunches of lavender and make sure to let them dry first (or you can just purchase already packaged lavender) and to help to give it a stronger smell you can also add organic lavender oil.

Create your own aromatherapy satchel:

  1. Lavender Bunches
  2. Little linen bags & rope or ribbon
  3. Organic Lavender Oil
  4. Scissors

Don’t have time for all of this? (trust me I do understand!) Use pure lavender essential oil and add a  few drops on a piece of tissue and stick it under your pillow… Voilà

How to Set a Table for a Dinner Party

How do you set your table properly?

I assume you know how to set a table, but lets say you didn’t because some of you maybe rarely host a dinner… 🙂 I received an email with the question on how to set a table properly, so I thought I would answer it here!

Beautiful, you have made it this far, invitations are out and your guests are almost here.

Food is cooked, wine is chilled…  It’s time for a dinner party!

Remember the famous scene in  “Pretty Woman”, when Julia Roberts says “slippery little su@#%!” (watch it)
as the escargot flies from her plate… for some reason I just thought of that.

Anyway… so you’re ready to set the table. Take a look below for the perfect layout.

The graphic below is pretty self explanatory (oh, and the napkin goes on your left!) You could also place the napkin in the center of the plate with a napkin ring or just nicely folded. Try a fancy napkin fold to surprise and delight your guests. And of course, don’t forget your napkin etiquette during the party!

In case you want to print out: download here!

To add a special touch to your table, add flowers and candle. I personally don’t like large flower arrangements on the table during dinner, because it blocks the view to your guest and it’s sometime hard to have a conversation while looking through the plants :). However, simple flower arrangements are always and elegant way to add a touch of color to your table setting and highlight the theme of the evening.

What is it about Pink Peonies?

A peony represents wealth and honor and expresses love and romance.

My season flower of the moment is the pink peony. And I thought you guys might share the admiration for its beauty. So, what is it about Pink Peonies?

The traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flower, peonies are known as the flower of riches and honor. With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.

The beautiful peony flower has long been a favorite of Asian artists. It appears not only in painting but poetry and literature as well. It is a frequent  motif in Chinese art, featured on screen paintings, clothing and woodblocks. The  peony is also a much-loved subject of Japanese artists, who have used it to  adorn tapestries and porcelain. European artists, such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir  and Vincent van Gogh, also sought to capture the peony’s beauty on canvas.

In honor of #FlowerFriday , I’m sharing a little DIY for a beautiful flower arrangement:

DIY – Create Floral Ice Cubes

How to Create Floral Ice Cubes

flower ice cubes

berry_ice_cubes

Remember the post about Edible Flowers a couple weeks ago?

It’s #FlowerFriday again… and this time I thought we should use the edible flowers to create floral ice cubes as decoration for your summer juices.

  1. Select your edible flowers (you can go to your local market and find out which flowers are edible) or check out the previous post on edible flowers.
  2. Use and ice cube trey that is silicon base, which makes it easier to to pop out the ice cubes once you are ready to use them
  3. Wash your edible flowers and place them in the ice cube tray. (to make it more fun you can use really large cubes in addition to small ones to make it look more fun)
  4. Add some water to the flowers in the tray… just enough to cover the flowers HALF ways. –
  5. Place in the ice cube in the freezer for a couple of hours
  6. Add some more water to cover up the complete flower and place in the freezer again.

OPTIONS:

To switch it up you can replace the edible flower with strawberries, cherries or any fruit of your choice.

TIP – remember once the ice melts in your beverage, it will likely flavor your beverly with the iced fruit or edible flower (so ensure the flowers are edible before serving your guest)
